If Mike wants to find himself, that's fine, but it sounds like he is committing himself to staying in Montana without thinking about how that will affect PJ, and that says a lot about how serious he is about her. It may be a bitter pill to swallow for PJ, but she shouldn't make him a priority in her life if he can't do the same for her. Carrie is right - sounds like they are both afraid of having "the talk" because they know what's going to happen.

If I were to gaze even deeper into my crystal ball, I might suggest that the reasons they have not asked themselves and each other those really hard questions is because they have a hint about the answers and that is just scary.

I agree that it's unbelievably frustrating. I just didn't want you to think that you and H were in the same position. As for advice...PJ has to follow her heart, you know? She should be happy, period. And I don't mean diamond ring and nice car happy, I mean happy that she feels confident in her relationship. I'm sure she deserves it. And that's not a slight on her or on Mike - it just is. and I know you're not judging and I'm not trying to either. I think it's fantastic that you don't have that trust issue - you are very lucky. But you knew that. :-)

carrie - i agree with you. I guess my frustration lies in the fact that i know how PJ feels - I know what it's like to wait around until someone catches up with you or where you want to be. And i just hate that for her - and at the same time, I don't know what to tell her or what advice to offer. I guess maybe it comes down to a trust issue? I trust that H won't make big decisions without consulting me or the effect it will have on our relationship. I don't think PJ or Mike trusts that in the same way...

And of course I mean no judgement toward either of them in the writing of this. I love both of them very much.

just something to consider/remember - H made that decision to not go himself. *He* said he had you and that three months was a long time, you didn't have to remind of him of that. And the fact that you would have wished him well if he had decided to consider it? He probably already knew that you would, which is probably one of the reasons why he wants to stay here. With you.

I'm not saying that makes you and H "better" than Mike and PJ, but it does make things different.

well you know what i feel :) we are afraid to want what we want because it will make us seem less cool/feminist/independent. i have often been. but i think we all can emerge, crysalis-like, into deeper wishes and hopes. it's not that life responds to our wishes, i don't think. it emerges as we find our way and see ourselves for who we are instead of whom we pretend to be. how freeing it is to give up pretending for someone else's benefit, which isn't a benefit all to us -- or even, i think, to those who want us to make fiction of our feelings :)
